Luis Suárez, the decisive predator
The Uruguayan is on 45 goals in as many games this season and is just two away from matching Ronaldo’s tally from 1996/97
They say that to be a top striker, one must be a great goalscorer rather than a scorer of great goals. If there is a striker in the current game who is not only both of the above, but also one that scores hugely important goals, it’s Luis Suárez.
Decisive goals
Since joining the club, the Uruguayan has made a habit of popping up with decisive strikes which have helped Barça to unprecedented success. Seventeen out of the 70 he has scored in blaugrana, some 30 per cent, have been decisive to win gammes.
Last season’s brace away to Manchester City (2-1) and his goal in the Champions League final against Juventus (3-1) helped Barça to their fifth European Cup, while his winner against Real Madrid in the league (2-1) helped put the team en route to the Liga title. Below are just some of the decisive Suárez goals:
La Liga
| Athletic Club-Barça (0-1) | Barça-Las Palmas (2-1) |
| Barça-Eibar (3-0) | Barça - Atletico Madrid (2-1) |
Champions League and Club World Cup
| Roma - Barça (1-1) | Barça- Bayer Leverkusen (2-1) |
| Barça-Guangzhou (3-0) | Barça - Atletico Madrid (2-1) |
On the brink of equalling Ronaldo's record
This season, Suárez has scored 45 goals in 45 games which put him within two of Ronaldo’s 47-goal tally in 1996/97. Messi and Ronaldo are the only two Barça players to have scored 47 times or more in a season, which highlights just how big a record Suarez is on course to achieving.
