Luis Enrique not looking back, but ahead to 2016
The FC Barcelona head coach made it clear that his team's enormous successes of 2015 were a thing of the past, and that their focus is on winning again next year
Mission accomplished. That was the gist of the message relayed by FC Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique following his team’s 4–0 triumph at Camp Nou in their final game if 2015, a result which allows his team to claim the top spot in the league table to start the new year.
But for all the successes of the past 12 months, Luis Enrique is squarely focused on the future. “I don’t dwell on memories and 2015 is in the past. Now I’m interested in 2016 and being the best again. That’s what professionals do,” he said.
Here the highlights of what he had to say:
On the game:
“The beginning of the game was jumbled up, there weren’t many scoring chances, and we had a tough time circulating the ball.”
“As far as intensity, we continued as we have done throughout the year, which is the best message we can send the fans heading into 2016.”
On the refereeing:
“In football, throughout the season referees make mistakes that help you and ones that hurt you. It’s tough to referee a game and it happens to all teams and all referees.”
On a grade for the year:
“A very good year. I’d give it a nine. But everything can be improved.”
On next year's objectives:
“Everyone can get better. The players, the coaches, and all the people that form part of this Club. There is very little difference between Europe’s big clubs and we have to keep working hard.”
