Thomas Vermaelen enjoying FC Barcelona's wonderful form

The Belgian defender describes how good it all feels after two fantastic wins against Real Madrid and AS Roma

Thomas Vermaelen spoke to the Barça TV cameras on Thursday and was clearly in high spirits. But who wouldn’t be after the emphatic 6-1 win against AS Roma? “Of course the results help but the atmosphere is positive” says the Belgian defender. “And even when things get difficult, the players are always positive and stick together as a team and that’s very important.”

“It wasn’t easy to be focused again and make sure we played with the same intensity as we did against Real Madrid” he says of the Champions League game, in which he featured for the full ninety minutes. “But we did it again on Tuesday … And for us to score six goals gives us a lot of confidence.”

He spent the Clásico on the bench, but still enjoyed the ‘unbelievable’ experience of his first ever visit to the Santiago Bernabéu. “I was very happy just to be there for a game that will go down in history” he comments. And while recognising that he’s stating the obvious, he finished by describing how delighted the whole team is that Leo Messi is back from injury!
